Bird Viewing
Cape Vidal lies within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site about 30 km north of the town of St Lucia.
Cape Vidal offers the best of two worlds - it is situated on the exquisite Zululand coast with all its amazingly rich marine life, and it provides direct access to the Eastern Shores Nature Reserve with its populations of elephant, rhino, buffalo, crocodile, hippo and reedbuck to name but a few.
Cape Vidal Resort is set in a bay sheltered by a rock reef that is completely exposed at low spring tides, providing a multitude of rock pools and prime snorkelling areas. On either side lie kilometres of deserted, unspoilt beaches ideal for long walks, while inland there are self-guided drives around the fascinating wetlands and rich coastal forests.
Let the sea set you free! Enjoy a 2 hours snorkeling adventure at Cape Vidal . Start with a safety pre-briefing intro to snorkeling, then into the water for 1 to 1 ½ hrs where you will be guided around safely, pointing out species of interest. Afterward you will be warm up with a lovely cup of coffee/tea or hot chocolate and page through the fish-id book.

Pineapple Gin & Brandy Tasting
Sodwana Bay has some excellent snorkeling with warm clean water all year round. Snorkeling spots ranging from protected rock pools and the protected bay area to the offshore coral and sandstone reefs which support a colourful community of tropical fish and corals as well as larger animals such as turtles, dolphins and whale sharks.
Sodwana Bay is famous for scuba diving, but if you are not a diver but still want to experience the underwater wonders at Sodwana, join us on a Sodwana bay snorkeling trip and we will take you into a different world.
The diving here is undoubtedly some of the best that South Africa has to offer... There is something for everyone. Whether you are a novice or pro, photographer, fun diver or even if you'd just like to give it a 'try' - you'll fall in love with this underwater paradise!
The dive sites and dive times are planned the evening before, but we may need to change this on the day, if we see that the sea conditions are not ideal for the dive site originally planned.
If you’re booking your first dive of the holiday, please bring your certification card or log book with you.
You will be amazed at the sheer number of marine species when diving. The reef is home to 1200 species of fish, which compared to 1800 on the Great Barrier Reef is incredible, since it is less than 1/10th the area!
As well as many tropical and subtropical fish, you will find invertebrates, turtles, rays and sharks on any of the numerous dive sites. Speak to the Dive Masters about what interests you the most, so they can advise the best sites to visit. What is more, is our seasonal sightings of Whalesharks and Manta Rays (Dec-Apr), Humpback Whales (Jun-Oct), Ragged-Tooth Sharks (Dec-Feb), and nesting Loggerhead and Leatherback Turtles (Dec-Feb), are all incredible experiences that see divers returning here year after year.
It is government legislation to hold a permit for diving in a Marine Protected Area. If you have been diving at Aliwal Shoal or elsewhere in a MPA, you can use the same permit if it isn’t expired. This 30 day temporary permit can be bought at our reception. Alternatively you can purchase an annual license at your local post office (they do sell 30 day permits as well).
